During the summer 2020 we hosted a Presbytery-wide book study:
“Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew. This one is no different. It is a portal, a gateway between one world and the next. We can choose to walk through it, dragging the carcasses of our prejudice and hatred, our avarice, our data banks and dead ideas, our dead rivers and smoky skies behind us. Or we can walk through lightly, with little luggage, ready to imagine another world. And ready to fight for it.” – Arundati Roy
Our anti-racism journey as a Presbytery is one that is both inward and outward.
We are called to turn inward for confession, lament and prayerful unmasking of ourselves and how we have existed in communities.
We are called to turn inward as we reflect on how we have been part of the system of white supremacy, participating and benefiting from it corporately and individually.
We are called to turn outward as we notice how this sinful system has kept our world away from the life-giving and life-saving promises we know in Jesus Christ who we call Teacher and Savior.
We are called to turn outward as we seek to live as disciples of Jesus who bring truth-telling, healing and participation in the building of the New Creation.
